Boys basketball
Bucs sneak past Belle Plaine
BELLE PLAINE — The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown boys basketball team remained unbeaten Tuesday, but it wasn’t easy. The Buccaneers downed Belle Plaine on the road by a 57-55 margin.
Tyler Dillon led the Bucs in scoring with 22 points while tacking on eight rebounds and three assists. Tate Harmon finished with 13 points, while Grant Pope had 13 points, six assists and three steals. Jordan Gregor finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
For Belle Plaine, Miah Fogarty led the team with 12 points, while Charlie Kern had 11. WEM (21-0, 13-0 Gopher Conference) will host Blooming Prairie on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
MSAD falls to Great River
The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf boys basketball team lost to Great River on Tuesday by a 79-47 margin. Shaun Novella finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Tommy Ellenbecker had six points, three board and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Matt Freeburg had six points and three boards.

Trojans lose
at home
The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf girls basketball team fell to Minnesota Transitions Charter School by a 44-31 on Tuesday.
Fresh off a trip home from the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf tournament in Iowa, coach Kirk Anderson said the Trojans were mentally drained and had no energy to play.
Cindy Siebert had 11 points on the night, including two 3-pointers, three assists and two steals. Molly Perkins had 14 rebounds and six points, Payton Brown had 10 boards and six points to go along with two blocks and Tabitha Anderson had four points, two assists and two steals.
The Trojans were out-rebounded by a 52-36 margin. MSAD (9-8) will face Calvin Christian on Wednesday, which could have Eastern Minnesota Athletic Conference implications as MSAD looks to improve its third seed heading into the EMAC tournament next week. |
