Habitat reaches new milestone
Email Print
Rice County Habitat for Humanity was part of an international milestone celebrated this month in Minneapolis.

A partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, has resulted in 2,000 homes in just four years. Rice County Habitat for Humanity built four homes as part of that effort.

At the Minneapolis event, Thrivent Financial announced a 2010 commitment of $15 million, continuing its support of Habitat’s mission for a fifth year. This funding will make the construction of 181 additional homes in 37 states possible. Rice County Habitat will be awarded $48,000 for the construction of its fifth Thrivent Builds home that will be built in the summer of 2010.

Rice County Habitat is a growing organization responding to the needs of affordable housing in the community. Habitat plans to complete four homes in 2010. One of those homes is under construction with South Central College in Faribault. Groundbreaking on three additional homes is planned for the spring. These will be in Faribault, Lonsdale and Dundas.
